Illuman of Illinois Movie Night

  • Clerics of St. Viator Province Center 1212 East Euclid Avenue Arlington Heights, IL, 60004 United States (map)

The return of our popular monthly Friday Movie Nights this fall was a big success, and we are pleased to announce the dates and movies for the Winter quarter of 2026.

Once again co-hosted by Chris Day and John Eustice at the St. Viator Province Center in Arlington Heights, this is an opportunity for casual fellowship around a thought provoking movie, with a relaxed discussion of the film afterwards.  This is a low pressure way to either stay connected with your brothers from Illuman Illinois, or to introduce other men to us in a drop-in, no commitment environment.

Doors open: 5:15pm, with pizza and soft drinks provided during fellowship time. (Please rsvp to cday12345@aol.com)

Movies start: 6:15pm with the goal of allowing discussion and personal reactions to the film afterwards while allowing the Viatorians to have their space back by 9:00pm

Address: Clerics of St. Viator Province Center, 1212 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights 60004

January 9: Departures

Departures won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (Japan).  A powerful story of the spiritual journey of a cellist whose orchestra disbands, leaving him to move back to his small hometown.  Desperate for work, he secretly takes a job as a funeral professional.  But while working with the families of the departed, he embarks on a spiritual journey of his own as he finally experiences the joy and wonder of living.

February 6: Invictus

The true story of Nelson Mandela’s challenging early days as President of a deeply divided South Africa.  To bring citizens together, he asks the captain of the national rugby team to do the impossible - win the World Cup while it is hosted in South Africa.  This is a both moving and thrilling story, and a powerful display of perseverance and forgiveness. Starring: Academy Award winners Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, and directed by Clint Eastwood.

March 6: Risen

As we near Easter, this a new telling of the Resurrection story – through the eyes of a non-believer, a powerful Roman military tribune and his aide who are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus’ body in the weeks after his crucifixion.  Pilate faces a visit from Caesar, and demands that the body be found to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah to prevent an uprising in Jerusalem before Caesar arrives. Starring:  Joseph Fiennes (“Shakespeare in Love”) and Tom Felton (Malefoy from Harry Potter)
