Illuman of Illinois Upcoming Events
Illuman of Illinois Movie Night
After a 5 year COVID hiatus, we are pleased to announce the return of our popular monthly Friday Movie Nights. Once again co-hosted by Chris Day and John Eustice at the St. Viator Province Center in Arlington Heights, this is an opportunity for casual fellowship around a thought provoking movie, with a relaxed discussion of the film afterwards.
This is a low pressure way to either stay connected with your brothers from Illuman Illinois, or to introduce other men to us in a drop-in, no commitment environment. Our goal is to offer showings on or as close to the 1 st Friday of each month, subject to the calendar of our generous Viatorian hosts.
Scapegoating: Breaking the Cycle
Throughout history and today Scapegoating has been a great social and personal evil. Rather than deal with our own weaknesses and negativity we find it easier to transfer our guilt onto some other group, person or things by singling that other out unmerited negative treatment.
We seem to need another person or group to be against to form our identity or group. Jack Moller and Bob Colaresi will lead us on a Saturday morning reflection on this prevalent Scapegoating that is a curse today socially and personally, to look at ways to break this vicious cycle.
It will be December 6th , 2025 – 8:30 to Noon, Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien.
ILLUMAN VIRTUAL COUNCIL (CST)
Illuman’s Virtual Council Circles use Zoom to gather men from anywhere in the world. They are designed as an opportunity to connect and a practice that helps men begin to find their true voice in the presence of other men on their journey of personal growth.
CHOOSING PRESENCE W/ ST. THOMAS
We need to stop sleep-walking through life. Awakening to presence within and around us is critical to being human, holy and alive.
Practicing Presence invites men to slow down, breathe deeply, and awaken to the transforming power and gift of Divine Presence. Through engaging teachings, guided practices, councils, wandering in nature, and sacred ritual, participants will learn to cultivate a rhythm of meditation & centering, described in Jim Heaney’s book Choosing Presence.
Men's Rites of Passage (MROP)
The Men’s Rites of Passage (MROP) is Illuman’s signature event. Created by Fr. Richard Rohr, this four-night/five-day experience utilizes traditional patterns of male initiation (incorporating nature, ritual, image, story, contemplation, and small group bonding) to help awaken men to the adventure and mystery of their own masculinity, deep spirituality, personal identity, and life’s purpose.
