Illuman of Illinois Movie Night

  • Clerics of St. Viator Province Center 1212 East Euclid Avenue Arlington Heights, IL, 60004 United States (map)

The return of our popular monthly Friday Movie Nights this fall was a big success, and we are pleased to announce the dates and movies for the Winter quarter of 2026.

Once again co-hosted by Chris Day and John Eustice at the St. Viator Province Center in Arlington Heights, this is an opportunity for casual fellowship around a thought provoking movie, with a relaxed discussion of the film afterwards.  This is a low pressure way to either stay connected with your brothers from Illuman Illinois, or to introduce other men to us in a drop-in, no commitment environment.

Doors open: 5:15pm, with pizza and soft drinks provided during fellowship time. (Please rsvp to cday12345@aol.com)

Movies start: 6:15pm with the goal of allowing discussion and personal reactions to the film afterwards while allowing the Viatorians to have their space back by 9:00pm

Address: Clerics of St. Viator Province Center, 1212 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights 60004

Friday May 1:     The Man Who Knew Infinity

This is the true story of an unlikely friendship that forever changed mathematics.  In 1913, a self-taught, divinely inspired Indian mathematics genius (played by Dev Patel) traveled to Cambridge, where over the course of 5 years he forged a bond with a brilliant but eccentric atheist professor (played by Jeremy Irons), while fighting against racial and religious prejudice to reveal his groundbreaking discoveries to the world.  Also starring Oscar winner Steven Fry and Toby Jones.  1 hour 48 minutes (2016).

Friday May 22:    October Sky

As we prepare for Fathers Day, here is the inspirational true story of a high school student in Coalwood, West Virginia in 1957 who dared to break free of the inescapable life of coal mining despite his father's resistance.  Homer Hickham Jr. (played by Jake Gyllenhaal in his first starring role) sees the Sputnik satellite in the night sky and sets out on an inspiring quest to build his own rocket.  Overcoming a poor education, a tough father (played by Chris Cooper) and a series of misfires, Homer and 3 friends work with their science teacher (played by Laura Dern) to overcome the many obstacles and turn his dreams into reality.  1 hour 48 minutes (1999)
